WHY TURMERIC IS THE SPICE TO SPICE UP YOUR LIFE

Move over Kale, avocados and blueberries there’s a new superfood that’s the next big thing and you may be surprised to know it’s actually been around for centuries!

You’ve probably heard the hype recently that Turmeric is the go to spice when it comes to the various health benefits, and you‘ll be pleased to know turmeric does actually live up to the hype.

Looking a little like ginger, it’s actually a root derived from a plant called curcuma longa. Turmeric can either be used whole or ground and is known for its powerful antioxidant properties including as a blood cleanser, an anti-inflammatory agent that helps you excrete toxins out of your body, and a substance that also helps to maintain and promote a healthy digestive and immune system. It contains fibre, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that all promote better health & wellbeing.

The curcumin in turmeric has also been proven to reverse symptoms of heart disease. Adding turmeric to your diet is almost as good for your heart as working out! But don’t stop working out just yet! It’s a great addition to your nutrition plan and including it in a number of different meals will help with its ability to cleanse your blood from the inside out while providing super benefits to your heart, brain, and muscles.

How do you eat turmeric?

The curcumin contained in turmeric is poorly absorbed into the bloodstream so it helps to consume black pepper with it. It can enhance the absorption of curcumin by 2,000%!

  • Add it to scrambles and frittatas
  • Sprinkle it on roast vegetables
  • Add to rice to add a bit of colour and flavour
  • Sprinkle it on greens like sauteed kale or spinach
  • Add it in soups
  • Blend it in to your smoothies (turmeric root is better but ground works too)
  • Make a turmeric tea (turmeric latte) by heating coconut or almond milk with a little honey and top with a sprinkle of turmeric. Add a pinch of cinnamon and black pepper to sweeten the taste and improve the absorption.
